JOB DESCRIPTION
DEPARTMENT: Recreation
REPORTS TO: Recreation Director
JOB SUMMARY: Assists the Recreation Director in providing outstanding Recreation programs that provide our residents with an active and enjoyable lifestyle. Individualized planning and attention will be given to each resident, based upon his or her personal recreation needs and interests. Our goal is to provide the most interesting, stimulating, and enjoyable recreation service possible; therefore, honoring resident requests is our specialty.
The person holding this position is delegated the responsibility for carrying out the assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current federal, state and local regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
JOB PROFILE:
1. Program Coordination
➢ Assists the Recreation Director in program planning.
➢ Prepares and leads group activities as directed.
➢ Visits with residents, providing social stimulation.
➢ Reports to Recreation Director on resident responses and/or progress to specific approaches utilized.
➢ Assists in maintaining an inventory of supplies and equipment, reporting to the Recreation Director any needed supplies and/or equipment.
➢ Responsible for general housekeeping duties in areas where Recreation activities occur.
➢ Ability to recognize any physical, mental, or behavioral change in a resident, which may signify a change in resident condition, and report such change immediately to the charge person on the resident’s unit.
➢ Announces Recreation programs prior to their beginning, per facility policy.
➢ Maintains attendance records for all Recreation programs.
➢ Assists supervision of volunteers.
➢ Spends additional time with new residents for their proper orientation and acclimation to Recreation Services and the facility.
➢ Demonstrates sensitivity and professionalism in dealing with residents, residents’ families and other visitors.
2. Training and Compliance
➢ Attends in-service training and continuing education workshops as requested or approved by the Recreation Director.
➢ Assists in transporting residents to and from Recreation activities.
➢ Constantly alert for conditions that may interfere with the safety and well being of residents involved in Recreation programs, and immediately reports any such conditions to the appropriate supervisor or department.
➢ Adheres to established policies and procedures of the facility.
➢ Maintains resident confidentiality in all activities.
May perform other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
➢ High School diploma or GED equivalent; some college preferred or comparable life experience
➢ Must possess a current NYS Drivers License, verified by a motor vehicle record.
➢ Ability and willingness to provide exceptional customer service.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS:
➢ At least one (1) year experience in a nursing facility, a long-term care setting or a recreational/art/crafts program.
➢ Understands the purpose and desired results of games, crafts, and activities; conscious of feelings, emotions and concerns of residents.
➢ Prior experience working with the geriatric population.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
➢ Good physical and mental health, producing upon hire, and at least every twelve (12) months thereafter, a satisfactory examination from a physician or equivalent indicating that the individual is free from any health impairment which is of potential risk to residents or which might interfere with the performance of the individuals duties. In addition, individual must produce a ppd (Mantoux) skin test for tuberculosis within thirty (30) days prior to employment and no less frequently than every two years after employment begins.
➢ Occasional twisting, bending, squatting, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and balancing.
➢ Ability to sit, stand and walk during all shifts.
➢ May need to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds and may need to carry up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
➢ Must be able to be on their feet much of the day.
➢ Must be able to move furniture as needed to prepare for Recreational programs.
