MISSION FOR THE MEDICATION TECHNICIAN
Renders nursing care to residents under the direction of the Director of Personal Care (DPC). Provides supervision and assistance in such a way that our residents feel they are genuinely cared for. Observes and reports changes in resident status to the primary care provider and DPC and documents such interactions and observations via established policies and procedures. Our goal is to provide the best service possible; therefore, honoring resident requests is our specialty.
The person holding this position is responsible for carrying out all assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current federal, state and local regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
REPORTS TO: Director of Personal Care
OUTCOMES EXPECTED FOR THIS LEADERSHIP POSITION:
1. Care and Supervision of Residents
➢ Responsible for provision of nursing care to residents during his/her shift as charge person for his/her assigned unit(s).
➢ Provides care, supervision and assistance in accordance with state regulations and company policies and procedures.
➢ Recognizes and consults with the Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)/Registered Nurse (RN) co-worker who is their contact for the shift as needed.
➢ Receive and transcribe physician orders as required.
➢ Observes, reports and records any changes in a resident’s physical, mental or emotional status and reports these changes to the DPC and primary medical provider.
➢ Maintains and updates the 24-Hour Report as required.
➢ Receives resident report at the start of shift and gives resident report at end of shift. Gives and receives shift report from the direct resident care personnel under his/her direction.
➢ Monitors resident attendance at meals.
➢ Monitors whereabouts of residents with any safety alarms. Responds immediately to the alarming of any alarms and completes documentation of such alarm as required.
➢ Monitors provision of nursing care by outside agencies.
➢ Maintains individual resident medical records on his/her shift, documenting information in clinical records, including: nursing notes, medication records and other approved forms.
➢ Completes an Accident and Incident (A&I) report for any reported accident or incident involving a resident or residents during his/her shift; documents the occurrence and forwards the original A&I report to the DPC.
➢ Demonstrates sensitivity and professionalism in dealing with residents, residents’ families and other visitors.
2. Medication Assistance
➢ Prepares and administers routine and PRN medications according to procedure and regulations.
➢ Documents medication assistance on the Medication Administration Record (MAR) per facility policy and state regulation.
➢ Responsible for checking the MARs for completeness of documentation at the end of his/her shift.
➢ Basic knowledge of pharmacological and therapeutic effects of medications administered.
➢ Verifies inventory of medications covered by the Controlled Substances Act of 1970.
➢ Orders medications as needed per facility policy from appropriate vendor.
➢ Keeps DPC informed of any issues related to medication administration and ordering.
➢ Keeps a well-organized, neat and clean work area.
3. Supervision of Staff
➢ Supervises direct resident care personnel assigned to shift and unit(s), ensuring that duties are performed and assignments completed.
➢ Reviews scheduled staffing and notifies DPC if adequate personnel are not on duty.
➢ Assigns duties to direct resident care personnel.
➢ Participates in Staff Meetings held by DPC.
➢ Assists with orientation of nursing personnel.
➢ Participates in and assists with on-going in-service education of nursing personnel, as requested.
➢ Brings any concerns regarding staff performance to the DPC.
➢ Participates in staff evaluations as requested by DPC.
➢ May perform other duties as assigned.

➢ This job operates in a professional healthcare environment.
➢ The incumbent must be able to work in a fast paced, hard charging environment with multiple tasks simultaneously.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
➢ Good physical and mental health, producing upon hire, and as required, a satisfactory examination from a physician or equivalent indicating that the individual is free from any health impairment which is of potential risk to residents or which might interfere with the performance of the individuals duties.
➢ Occasional twisting, bending, squatting, kneeling, and crouching.
➢ Ability to sit, stand and walk during all shifts.
➢ May need to lift and carry up to twenty-five (25) lbs.
➢ Produce a PPD (Mantoux) skin test or blood test for tuberculosis as required.
➢ Produce immunization records as required.
Education and Experience:
➢ Previous experience as a Medication Technician or completion of a Medication Technician program.
➢ Ability to demonstrate proper technique and knowledge of Medication Administration.
➢ Supervisory/leadership experience.
➢ Possesses a caring, customer-focused attitude.
