REPORTS TO: Environmental Services Director
Provide our residents with exceptional laundry service that exceeds their highest expectations. Resident clothing will be collected and returned with greatest care, ensuring that all items are returned cleaned, pressed and stain-free. Bedding and linens will be returned fresh smelling and soft to ensure the most comfortable experience possible for our residents. Our goal is to provide the best service possible; therefore, honoring resident requests is our specialty.
The person holding this position is responsible for carrying out all assigned duties and responsibilities in accordance with current federal, state and local regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.
1. Laundry Organization
➢ Collects and sorts resident laundry.
➢ Maintains a clean and organized work area and ensures a clean laundry area and clean laundry equipment.
➢ Handles, stores, processes, and transports all linens in a manner that will prevent the spread of infection.
➢ Ensures that residents’ clothes are properly identified and labeled with indelible ink pen, and labels resident names on items that are found unlabeled.
➢ Reports losses and damages of residents’ laundry.
➢ Maintains inventory of linens and laundry supplies.
➢ Keeps laundry off the floor.
➢ Distributes clothes to residents’ rooms.
2. Laundry Processing
➢ Washes garments and linens in an electrically powered washing machine and adjusts valves to proper temperatures..
➢ Uses soap or other solutions in appropriate manners.
➢ Transfers washed clothes from washer to dryers and then to baskets for distribution.
➢ Hangs finished garments on hangers or folds and stacks garments.
➢ Wears gloves, as necessary, when handling soiled linens; washes hands after contact with any soiled linen.
➢ Washes contaminated linens separately if necessary.
➢ Reports malfunctions of equipment.
➢ Weighs laundry and linens for compliance with machine standards.
➢ Cleans and replaces filters in washing machines after each load.
➢ Removes lint from tumbler and keeps tumbler clean.
3. Laundry Knowledge
➢ Is willing to perform routine tasks on a continuous basis and keeps up with a regular load of work.
➢ Understands the functions of various soaps, bleaches, softeners, and other chemicals employed in washing and rinsing.
➢ Distinguishes between cotton, wool, and synthetic fabrics.
➢ Familiarizes oneself with proper heat to apply to particular fabrics preventing material damage.
➢ Uses only the amount of detergent required in order to maintain a minimum level of suds.
➢ Attends in-service training as required by law and for this position.
May perform other duties as assigned
➢ High school diploma or GED equivalent.
➢ Ability to read, write, and speak English.
➢ Ability and willingness to provide exceptional customer service.
PREFERRED SKILLS AND CHARACTERISTICS:
➢ Experience and knowledge of cleaning characteristics of various fabrics.
➢ Knowledge and ability to use household and industrial washers and dryers.
➢ Knowledge of commercial laundry processes, equipment, and procedures for both washing and ironing materials.
➢ Good physical and mental health, producing upon hire, and at least every twelve (12) months thereafter, a satisfactory y examination from a physician or equivalent indicating that the individual is free from any health impairment which is of potential risk to residents or which might interfere with the performance of the individuals duties. In addition, individual must produce a ppd (Mantoux) skin test for tuberculosis within thirty (30) days prior to employment and no less frequently than every two (2) years after employment begins.
➢ Constant twisting, bending, squatting, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and balancing.
➢ Ability to sit, stand and walk during all shifts.
➢ Constant lifting and carrying up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
